The album, a fusion of Brazilian groove, pop and jazz showcases Dobson's seasoned vocal ability and captures the very heart of an artist who simulataneously respects tradition and upends convention.<br /><br />My absolute favorite album track is <a href="http://secretsunrecordings.com/audio/sasha-dobson_crescent.mp3">Crescent</a> <br /><br />Go download it and lemme know whatcha think.<br /><br />'Modern Romance' features thirteen songs including eleven originals, and an uncanny pair of covers: The Yeah Yeah Yeahs' "Modern Romance" and the Duke Ellington standard "Mood Indigo." Sasha takes the YYY's postmodern dirge from their 'Fever To Tell' album and radically refashions it as a subtle, galloping love lament. Her cover of "Mood Indigo" also surprises with a strummed banjo accompaniment and soulfully plucked electric bass solo.<br /><br />Originally from Santa Cruz, California, Sasha grew up understanding jazz as a way of life. She is the daughter of two of the San Francisco Bay area's most notable jazz musicians, the late pianist Smith Dobson and singer Gail Dobson. She grew up singing jazz professionally from the age of 16, and now 26, lives in New York City, performing original songs in clubs around the Lower East Side.<br /><br />Sasha Dobson will be on tour this September and October in support of 'Modern Romance', including a show at the Monterey Jazz Fest in September. Her next NYC performance will be Aug. 2nd at The Living Room. Those guys make me have faith in music again...it was an amazing show. They rocked out 200% as did the crowd. It was so nice to not feel like an old fucker at a show finally.
